Attila tournament
In short:
Every year, E.S.K.V. Attila organizes the Attila Tournament — one of the biggest and most legendary student korfball events in Europe!
Over 500 students from across the Netherlands and abroad gather in Eindhoven for three days packed with korfball, parties, and chaos.
The weekend kicks off on Friday evening with a massive pub crawl on Stratumseind — Europe’s longest nightlife street. After a short night’s rest in the Student Sports Centre Eindhoven (SSCE), the matches begin on Saturday, followed by our famous themed party. On Sunday, the tournament concludes with the finals and the closing ceremony.
What is a student-korfball tournament?
The hosting association, E.S.K.V Attila, is a student association, and therefore this is a Student Korfball Tournament. But what does that mean? First of all, it means that most teams consist solely of students. Over the years, multiple students from all over Europe (and beyond) have participated in the tournament.
We also play with some rules that differ from the standard IKF korfball rules. First of all, it is prohibited for the attacking team to try to gain ball possession after the defending team has intercepted it, also known as “uitverdedigen” in Dutch. When a team does this, a penalty will be awarded to the other team. Then the second most important rule: a penalty must be taken as a trick shot from behind the korf.
The Planning
The tournament lasts three days and will likely take place on the same weekend as the Korfball League final in the Netherlands. You will arrive on Friday afternoon, where we will first register your team and players. Participants get an assigned place to store their things. Then, an organized pubcrawl will take you to the nice locations on Stratumseind. Stratumseind is Europe’s longest nightlife street, featuring over 50 bars and clubs.
On Saturday, after a (hung-over) breakfast, we will start the tournament. During the tournament, you will play multiple matches against different teams. There is also a possibility to participate in a “prestatieprijs.” This “prestatieprijs” is a non-korfball-related game, which aligns with the theme of the tournament. On Saturday evening, after a delicious meal, we will host a theme party at an external location.
To finish the tournament, we will hold the finals on Sunday, and around 16:00, the tournament will conclude.
Accommodation
During the tournament, you can sleep in the halls of the Student Sports Centre on the Eindhoven University of Technology campus (SSCE). We will provide breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday, as well as dinner on Saturday.
Parties
As mentioned above, there will be two parties during the tournament. The first is a pub crawl on Friday evening, and the second is a themed party likely in the center of Eindhoven. For both events, we will adhere to Dutch alcohol laws, which prohibit serving alcohol to anyone under the age of 18.
